We are truly blessed to be a part of such a caring community! All of us at Yad Chessed are beyond grateful to the volunteers who helped us deliver hundreds of kosher Shabbat Hanukkah meals to those struggling with financial hardship. We’re also grateful to all those who generously sponsored meals. Together, we were able to deliver 350 meals to 149 Yad Chessed households in 50 towns!

The response from our Yad Chessed clients has been immense gratitude. Clients sent messages of appreciation, such as, “You all made my Hanukkah! And my weekend. Thanks so much for thinking of me.”

This opportunity to deliver a message of caring in the tangible form of a delicious meal brought together so many in our community! Our 70-plus volunteers spanned the lifecycle: young adults from Brandeis University; families with children; and empty-nesters. Students from Solomon Schechter Day School created Hanukkah cards with messages of warmth and caring, and our partners from JewBer (the local Jewish community meal delivery group) contributed menorahs and candles, as well as volunteers and logistical support. And, of course, the hard-working staff at Dushez Kosher Catering prepared the delicious meals.

Together, this cross section of our community experienced the joy that comes from performing generous acts of chessed  (kindness). And, together, we lifted the spirits of our neighbors in need.

Nancy Kriegel is the executive director of Yad Chessed.
