Temple Beth Sholom in Framingham will formally install Rabbi Allison Poirier as its new spiritual leader at a festive community service at TBS on Friday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
“We are so excited to have Rabbi Poirier lead our congregation,” said TBS president Evie Kintzer Shorey. “She is warm, smart and energetic. In the short time she’s been with us this summer, she has received rave reviews from all members of our congregation. She has already brought so much spirit to our temple community.”
Rabbi Poirier is attracting new families to Temple Beth Sholom with her engaging style and creative programming to reach all generations. Planned for the fall are “Torah on Tap” events at Jack’s Abby Beer Hall for adults in their 20s and 30s, a “Sukkot on the Farm” event for young families, a Shabbat basketball game for teens and an adult education class on bioethics and Judaism. This summer, the congregation enjoyed summer picnics and musical outdoor Shabbat services.
Poirier has a dual undergraduate degree from Barnard College and the Albert A. List College of the Jewish Theological Seminary and received her rabbinical ordination and master’s of Jewish education from Hebrew College in Newton this past June. She previously served as rabbinic intern at Temple Israel in Sharon where, in addition to teaching in the religious school and advising the senior youth group, she distinguished herself by successfully engaging millennials and bringing unaffiliated professionals into the orbit of Jewish life. Most notably, she created and coordinated Chevra, a group for young professionals that she grew from a small group of loosely affiliated individuals to a group of nearly 100 people who convened regularly for Shabbat dinners, educational programs and holiday and social events.
Poirier also taught Talmud, social justice and Jewish studies to high-school students at Prozdor of Hebrew College in Newton. A native of Medfield, she recently relocated to Framingham with her husband and young daughter.
All are welcome to join us for Rabbi Poirier’s installation on Sept. 20, and for the High Holiday services at TBS, including our exciting alternative second-day Rosh Hashanah HaYom service.
