Are you curious about the ways in which this ancient spiritual technology can help us to address contemporary issues? How can Shabbat help us replenish ourselves when we feel burnt out, address the constant stimulation of social media, and help us find community?
We welcome you to apply for Shabbat Squad 2019! We provide the funding, resources and the training, you bring the ideas, Shabbat leadership, and the people!

What is it?

A select cohort of individuals will be able to gather together with Emily Rogal (Riverway Project network weaver) to envision Shabbat dinners as the space of communal gathering. As part of the training, you will be asked to attend two of the three learning sessions and host a dinner.

How we support you:

  • Money to pay for groceries/catered food (dinners will be posted on the OneTable platform to receive their nourishment and Riverway will match each person in attendance with a $10/person contribution, up to 10 people)
  • Specially curated Riverway Shabbat kit (candlessticks, wine glass, conversation guide, etc., all yours to keep!)
  • Opportunity to become a leader in Riverway life and help welcome new faces
  • Invigorating and interesting opportunities to learn about Shabbat to create a “tool box” to bring with you for the rest of your Jewish life!

Note: If you’re worried you don’t know enough people to be able to host a dinner, don’t worry! All Shabbat dinners will be open to the whole Riverway community, and we will make sure there are great folks celebrating Shabbat with you.

Applications are open until Nov. 12. The Shabbat Squad will be announced on Nov. 13.

Session 1: Shabbat Dinner (Friday, Nov. 15, Somerville)
Session 2: Shabbat Bagel Brunch Learning (Saturday, Nov. 23, Cambridge)
Session 3: Challah Baking (Monday, Dec. 9, Temple Israel)
