Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly is launching Chaynaya Vecherinka at our Brighton campus. This program will provide Russian-speaking young adults with an opportunity to engage in meaningful social-justice volunteering with our older Russian immigrant residents.

Through a theme-based conversation group, volunteers will meet with residents and discuss topics such as Russian humor, history, food and the arts. The act of breaking bread—Russian dessert and tea—and partaking in an exchange of ideas and perspectives will promote a sense of purpose and productivity for our senior residents and help with fighting senior loneliness.

Volunteers can sign up for specific dates or volunteer each session. Chaynaya Vecherinka will take place on Thursdays from 3-4:30 p.m. from October 12 to December 7. To volunteer, please contact Kate White at kwhite@jche.org or 617-912-8488.
