We at Temple Shir Tikva are proud to announce that we have received two grants recently to increase safety and security measures that protect our community. Temple Shir Tikva was awarded $17,905 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from the Commonwealth Nonprofit Security Grant Program, sponsored by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Office of Grants and Research.
This grant was part of $905,000 in security grants awarded to 53 faith-based organizations to strengthen on-premise safety and security. Sites this year were selected specifically in order to protect attendees that faced potential increased risks. The grant was awarded in April and we moved quickly to complete work on a project to provide safer access to the ELC and other doors around the temple. Work was completed in the week between the end of the ELC school year and the beginning of camp.
Temple Shir Tikva was also awarded a $2,000 grant toward security enhancements for the ELC. The non-competitive grant was awarded by the Office of Communal Security at Combined Jewish Philanthropies. Temple Shir Tikva was able to use these funds to improve our alarm system and make it easier for ELC staff to call for help if needed.
ELC director Stephanie Lerner commented: “The safety and security of our children, families and teachers is of the utmost importance, and we are thrilled to continue to offer the most secure environment possible to our families and staff.”
