Learn, laugh, meet, greet, sing and share at the 7th annual LimmudBoston festival of Jewish culture and lifelong learning on Sunday, December 4, from 9-5:30 at the campus comprising both Temple Reyim and Mayyim Hayyim Mikveh on Washington Street. This celebration of everything Jewish offers over 80 presentations, panels and performances. Do your Chanukah shopping with exhibitors and at the silent auction. LimmudBoston—Limmud means ‘study’ in Hebrew—is based on the values and principles of the original Limmud UK, where everyone attends as a learner and volunteerism is the mode of the day. Under the direction of founder, Steffi Aronson Karp, of Waban, volunteers from all over New England help to bring LimmudBoston to life. Karp says, “From planners to presenters, everyone is on a first name basis and everyone has equal value, so that every participant may feel ownership of LimmudBoston.”

LimmudBoston 2016 will include sessions from ghost writer Bill Novak on favorite Jewish jokes, and Amnesty International’s former director Joshua Rubenstein on Stalin’s final years. The Jewish Storytelling Coalition showcases their finest, and then turns the mic over to participants. Arnie Davidson of Shir Hamakom hosts the music open mic session at lunchtime, and then he and Cantor Jeff Klepper will headline the grand finale concert. Klepper is also presenting on the latest Jewish Nobel Peace Prizewinner, Bob Dylan. There are food demonstrations and panels about Jewish entrepreneurs, and lots of text study on everything from parsing the election to Israel and parenting.

Covenant Foundation Grant winner Sandra Lilienthal, of Florida, will be presenting two sessions on adult learners. Other educators are speaking about novel ways to teach Hebrew and creating inspiring curricula for all small congregations. Special needs learning will also be discussed. In addition to their talk about the practice of Spiritual Directions, there will be time and space for a limited number of private spiritual direction sessions.

LimmudBoston’s Camp Limmud program, for families with children ages 3-13, is being run by the Early Childhood team of the JCC of Greater Boston.  Camp Limmud registration must be made by Monday, November 28.

The LimmudBoston Board is chaired by Newton’s Alan Teperow, who became Chair of the LimmudBoston Board after 33 years as Executive Director of the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts. Julie Wolkoff, a rabbi from Wellesley, chairs the Program Team.
