Here’s a blog post from Camp Avoda. It shows that sometimes being at camp is about being “out of camp” for the day before returning to your camp home.
Trip Day-Water Wizz!

Summer 2016
July 7, 2016
Camp Avoda enjoyed its first all-camp field trip of the season. The weather cooperated: partly sunny, hot, but not extreme, and a small ocean breeze. Campers cooperated: lots of noisy, wet fun, lots of laughter, and lots of camaraderie. The counselors cooperated: helping each other out, applying huge amounts of sunscreen, managing all of their campers’ varied preferences.
The lazy river was filled with people meandering around in tubes, enjoying the cool water, and many of our campers were in there, too. Water slides of varying intensity were busy, but the wait times were all less than 20 minutes. Not only did our staff track their campers, but they had fun together. Even our very smallest camper made the height cut-off this year!
Some of our youngest campers had their first experience managing their money. It was great fun watching them do their mental math and figure out what their money would buy. They also had to think ahead in case they wanted an extra treat later in the day. We all returned to camp sweaty, tired, and happy.
After a bit of downtime, the kitchen provided a buffet dinner that some campers and staff were still too full to enjoy. It is still kind of fun to go into the mess hall and choose what you want to eat. The evening was capped off with a movie in the lodge. Everyone slept well last night!
We certainly did “roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer”! (Nat King Cole)
