Second Temple, Jerusalem: 2 century BCE: Judah, Leader of the Maccabees, announced today, that the oil in the lamp that should have only lasted one night has lasted eight. It is declared a Miracle of Lights.
Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation founder, Jay Feinberg announces partnership with The Maccabeats, the hit a capella singing group, to share the Miracle of Chanukah, in an awareness campaign during the holiday celebrated this December, entitled Miracle Match Campaign.
Last year, The Maccabeats filled the airways and the news channels with their viral hit, “Candlelight,” which has since surpassed six million views. One of the Maccabeats founders, Michael Greenberg, celebrated with his group and entranced audiences with their crisp harmonies and wickedly clever lyrics and images. This year, in memory of Michael’s beloved mother, Judy Greenberg, who had died of leukemia, the group is determined to create miracles for others. They contacted Gift of Life and now, along with the release of their new hit song, “Miracle,” are urging people to help grow the bone marrow registry. During this Miracle Match Campaign, the goal is to raise $10,000 for each night of the holiday to help test cheek swab samples from potential bone marrow donors.
“Chanukah is about miracles and we have to remember that we can play a role in making miracles happen,” says Michael Greenberg. “Gift of Life is an amazing organization and we are very excited about partnering with them to raise awareness, get everyone swabbed, and raise the money needed to process all the swabs.”
Dr. Mayim Bialik, who stars in the hit series “Big Bang Theory,” makes an appearance in the new video. Her participation with Gift of Life continues in a campaign to aid in the bone marrow search for 2 year old Ezra Fineman.
The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation is an internationally recognized bone marrow donor registry and cord blood bank established in 1991 when its founder, Jay Feinberg, was diagnosed with leukemia. Four years and 60,000 donors later, the very last donor tested was his miracle match. Gift of Life has since enrolled 190,000 volunteer donors and is responsible for facilitating over 2,400 bone marrow transplants.
“I am incredibly honored that the Maccabeats have joined our mission,” says Jay Feinberg, “I was lucky enough to find my miracle match however there are many other patients still waiting to find theirs.”
