CJP is proud to announce the 2018 Chai in the Hub honorees! These 10 young adults are doing amazing things personally and professionally to better Greater Boston’s Jewish community. Nominated by their peers, friends and colleagues, this group of under-45ers is shaking up the scene with style.
You can meet them in person and hear from our hilarious, sharp-tongued keynote speaker, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Broad City” actress and comedian Susie Essman, on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Royal Sonesta Boston. For now, check out their bios below!
Emily Cable
Occupation: Global health/international development professional
Describe your career in one sentence: I work on global public health projects, mostly implemented in sub-Saharan Africa. We seek to improve health systems and health outcomes for the world’s most vulnerable populations.
What is your favorite non-work activity? Traveling.
What organizations are you involved with? CJP’s Boston-Haifa Young Leadership Committee; CJP’s Strategic Israel Engagement’s Project Inspire; co-chair, CJP’s Israel360; CJP’s Young Leadership Committee; Birthright Israel Fellows; Birthright Israel Foundation
What inspires you to give back? I’ve been blessed throughout my life to receive many unique opportunities, particularly through the Jewish community. These opportunities greatly impacted my life and inspire me to give back with the hope of impacting others’ lives and expressing gratitude.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Ten years ago, I couldn’t have predicted I’d be here, so who can say where I’ll be in 10 more? I’m sure I will still be active in the Jewish community and committed to improving health for populations around the world.
Shmaya Friedman
Occupation: Rabbi and associate director, Chabad of the North Shore
Describe your career in one sentence:
Providing meaningful Jewish experiences to people from all walks of life.
What is your favorite non-work activity?
I probably shouldn’t be saying this around these parts but…anything Knicks/Giants/Yankees/Rangers!
What organizations are you involved with?
Chabad of the North Shore; Camp Gan Israel of the North Shore; Jew Crew; 1Mitzvah; Jewish Kids Club
What inspires you to give back?
The mystical teachings of Chabad Chassidut. Particularly, its clarion call to “bring heaven down to earth,” one mitzvah at a time.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Brainstorming innovative ways for Jews of all ages to reclaim their Judaism.
Occupation: Government affairs, Massachusetts Department of Children and Families
Describe your career in one sentence:
Bringing diverse groups of people together to develop and implement a more sustainable and equitable future.
What is your favorite non-work activity?
Baking, and then sharing the results with friends and family.
What organizations are you involved with?
Board member, Jewish Community Relations Council; co-chair, Jewish Community Relations Council’s ReachOut!; Temple Beth Shalom of Cambridge; Tremont Street Shul
What inspires you to give back?
I feel like it might be admitting a dirty secret to say this, but a big inspiration for giving back is that it really is so much fun! I love being part of a community and learning from—and with—an incredible group of people.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Making a deep dent in the ever-growing stack of books I want to read, and having perfected the art of making amazing lunches for the work week.
Zachary Wainwright
Occupation: Investment management
Describe your career in one sentence:
I work at a non-profit that helps other non-profits invest their endowments.
What is your favorite non-work activity?
I love to relax with my fiancé, Marissa, and our dog, Wrigley.
What organizations are you involved with?

What inspires you to give back?
I am inspired by my parents, who have always led by example by giving as much time and money as they could. They instilled in my brother and me a strong commitment to give back to our communities, and we are honored to carry on their legacy of giving.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to have a beautiful family with my future wife, Marissa, and to still be pursuing my passion for investing.
Carine Warsawski
Occupation: Founder, Trybal Gatherings
Describe your career in one sentence:
Reimagining the way young adults gather by hosting “Jewish summer camp for adults” weekends nationally.
What is your favorite non-work activity?
Fire Pit Fridays with friends, wine and homemade challah.
What organizations are you involved with?
Wexner Graduate Fellowship; ROI Community; Bates College admissions; The iCenter
What inspires you to give back?
The Jewish community has shaped my identity, fueled my sense of purpose, and enriched me with extraordinary mentors and friends. From spending a year of high school in Israel to summers at camp, leading dozens of Jewish tours worldwide to creating a new movement for young adults, the most transformative moments of my life were rooted in a sense of belonging to Jewish peoplehood.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to still be waking up every morning with the drive to create exciting and meaningful opportunities that make people love being Jewish. I aspire to have found a multi-faceted answer to the evolving needs of the next generation of Jews within a complex Jewish landscape.
