According to the ADL, more antisemitic incidents have been recorded than ever before following Oct. 7, and antisemitic incidents in the U.S. have risen to their highest levels since record-keeping began in 1979. Additionally, anti-Israel protests on college campuses have spiraled and destroyed Jewish students’ sense of security and belonging.
On Thursday, July 18, 2024, community members will unite at Jewish National Fund-USA’s “Combatting Antisemitism on Campus” event in Marblehead to address this issue plaguing university students. The event’s keynote speaker, Jacob Baime, CEO of Israel on Campus Coalition (ICC), will discuss the impactful work the ICC is doing in partnership with Jewish National Fund-USA and the ways the organizations are helping students feel safe again.
“We are witnessing a troubling trend where anti-Israel activists are no longer hiding behind a veneer of political criticism of Israel but are openly spewing antisemitism both online and in person,” said Baime.
While the situation on college campuses across the U.S. continues to deteriorate, Jewish National Fund-USA is supporting students through its College Campus Resources Toolkit, which provides students with a platform to directly report occurrences of antisemitism to their college administration while also providing information on organizations that can assist.
This event is led by Matthew Hersh, Jewish National Fund-USA’s new associate director for New England and The Capital Region, who joined the organization in February 2024.
“As Jews and as Zionists, we should not have to hide in the shadows at universities living in fear of retribution or violence,” said Hersh. “That’s why Jewish National Fund-USA and the ICC are teaming up to support students on campus and empower them to passionately and safely advocate for the Jewish homeland.”
