I was really excited to attend The Moishe House North American Training Conference, also known as “Natty Con,” but I had no idea what to expect from a weekend at a camp in Wisconsin. I had been involved in the Cambridge Moishe House as a board member for about a year before I moved in as a resident, but that was the extent of my exposure. Did I know that there were Moishe Houses all over the world? Yeah—we have four alone in the Greater Boston area (Cambridge, Brookline, Jamaica Plain and Brighton). But did I know what 300-plus community builders coming together for a weekend would look like? Absolutely not.

We had three jam-packed days where we attended classes and workshops on a variety of subjects, met with other residents, exchanged stories, struggles, and ideas, had a beautiful Shabbat, and got a look at what’s to come in Moishe House’s future. I left truly inspired knowing that I’m a part of something bigger, working to fulfill a mission I wholeheartedly agree with.

For me, being a part of Moishe House is all about the opportunities I’m providing for my peers and the impact I’m leaving on my community. Through seven events each month, my roommates and I are able to create an environment where any Jewish young adult can be exposed to Jewish practice, culture, and education, and have the chance to meet other young adults like them. We’re able to take our passion for our religion, culture, practice, interests, and anything else you want to call it, and share it with our community to bring us together.

Whether it’s volunteering through a local charity, enjoying a Shabbat dinner, celebrating a Jewish holiday, or leading a learning group, Moishe House has given us the chance to share the beauty of Judaism with our community. And if Natty Con is any indication, Moishe House isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
