As the last generation to truly know Survivors, our generation of Jewish young adults hold a unique place within both the Jewish community and within history itself. With survivors aging and our parents caring for their increasing needs, the third generation has an opportunity and a responsibility.
The opportunity exists to take the stories we have heard from the people that lived to tell them, and to begin sharing them. We can share them not only within our own community, but with the broader community. Those who do not know a survivor. Those who know about the 6,000,000, but do not know their legacy. And those that consider it just another part of history.
On April 30 and May 1, Boston 3G will be co-sponsoring 2 different events for Holocaust Commemoration. The first is a Yom HaShoah Havadalah with Miss Massachusetts which will allow an intimate group of Jewish young adults to come together to eat, drink share stories, discuss the role of the third generation, and hear from a fellow 3G, Miss Massachusetts, Loren Galler Rabinowitz.
The second is the Frozen Memorial. This is our opportunity to educate the broader Boston community about the Holocaust and to give them pause to think and to remember. Here is a video from last year’s Frozen Memorial:
