It’s the Jewish year 5783, whose numbers represent connecting and coming together. This could not be more fitting as we look forward to reuniting our HBT community to celebrate the incredible legacy of Rabbi Barbara Penzner during her final year as our beloved rabbi.

If you have ever visited us or have friends in our congregation, you might know that we are a small synagogue with a big heart. We provide a wide variety of programs that support our principles of Avodah, Torah, Havurah, and Tikkun Olam (Worship, Learning, Community, and Repairing the World). Our programming reflects our members’ passionate commitment to Jewish learning and social justice as well as our joyful diversity.

Nowhere is this truer than in our observance of the High Holy Days. During our Reconstructionist services, Rabbi Barbara Penzner—who blesses us doubly as a leader and a musician—serves as cantor and rabbi. Uplifting songs fill our sanctuary throughout each day. Community members assist in leading and reflection during each service, and our youngest members join us for stories and prayer with our rabbi’s special touch. Through the planning and participation of HBT members throughout the holy days, we create a strong sense of community and fellowship.

During Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, our building buzzes with activity, all intended to help us pause for reflection and renewal. Every service and program aim to bring meaning to the New Year and to fill each of us with gratitude, peace, and intention.

We hope that you will join us for the High Holy Days this year and consider yourself a part of HBT. We believe that we have something very special here to share with you.
