Temple Shalom of Newton‘s first Scholar/Artist for an extended residency of study and creation is Rabbi Dr. Ariel Burger, a working artist, scholar and teacher. Rabbi Burger will examine the power of story-telling through large community presentations and a number of smaller Havurah learning sessions through May with his event series, Entering the Heart of Stories. Together, we will explore lesser-known, mythical and poetic Jewish stories through text and art.
Rabbi Burger is the past director of the Commission on Life and Learning at Combined Jewish Philanthropies. He earned his doctorate in Jewish Studies and Conflict Resolution from Boston University, where he studied under Elie Wiesel, becoming his teaching assistant for five years.
The Open Your Eyes Fund, the Altshuler Family Scholar-in-Residence Fund and Adult Learning helped make the residency possible.
