On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 8 a.m., Jewish National Fund-USA is hosting its inaugural Breakfast for Israel on the North Shore, where community members will unite in support of the people of Israel while learning how the organization has been aiding Israelis in the southern region pre- and post-Oct. 7.
Chaired by Jay Shuman, the event’s keynote speaker is Alon Ben-Gurion, the grandson of Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion. Alon will discuss Israel’s independence, lessons he learned from his grandfather on leadership in times of crises, and his confidence in the future of the Jewish homeland.
“Our historic yearning has been for a new society built on liberty, equality, tolerance, mutual aid, and love for man,” he said of his grandfather’s vision. “A society without exploitation and discrimination, slavery, or tyranny. Our stance in the world will not be determined by our supposed material wealth nor by our military might, but by the moral light of our understanding. And although there are some heavy shadows in our lives now, we have the grounds to believe that we can be an example nation.”
Local leaders will also spotlight Jewish National Fund-USA’s decades-long commitment to transforming Israel’s southern frontier through its visionary Blueprint Negev initiative. Even before Oct. 7, the organization was investing in the Negev’s future—creating new communities, expanding medical services, boosting employment, and building parks, schools, and cultural centers. Today, that commitment is stronger than ever, as we repair damage, strengthen resilience, and ensure that the Negev remains a vibrant, thriving home for generations of Israelis.
“In the spirit of David Ben-Gurion’s dream for a flourishing Negev Desert region, we’re not just rebuilding—we’re reimagining what Israeli life on the frontier can look like,” said Shuman. “Alon carries the legacy of his grandfather while charting his own path forward, bridging Israel’s storied past with its promising future. Together, we are building a strong and radiant tomorrow.”
