In the Babylonian Talmud, Purim revelers are instructed to consume wine “until one doesn’t know the difference between ‘cursed be Haman’ and ‘blessed be Mordechai.’”
But that doesn’t mean you have to drink the wine. These three-hued bites look great, have a fun jiggle and—surprisingly, perhaps—taste pretty good, too! Think of them as grown-up Jell-O shots.
Three-Tiered Wine Gelatin Shots
Ingredients
- 1½ ounces (6 packets) powdered gelatin
- 2 cups red wine
- 2 cups rosé wine
- 2 cups white wine
Directions
- Line 8×8 baking pan with two layers of plastic wrap. (This will make the set gelatin easy to remove and transfer to a cutting board.) Bring 1½ cups red wine to boil in small saucepan. Transfer remaining ½ cup red wine to medium bowl and sprinkle ½ ounce gelatin (2 packets) over top. Let stand 1 minute, then add wine in saucepan to bowl and whisk until gelatin dissolves. Pour into prepared pan and transfer to refrigerator until set, about 3 hours.
- Bring 1½ cups rosé wine to boil. Transfer remaining ½ cup rosé wine to medium bowl and sprinkle ½ ounce gelatin (2 packets) over top. Let stand 1 minute, then add wine in saucepan to bowl and whisk until gelatin dissolves. Let cool until room temperature, then pour over red wine layer and refrigerate until set, about 3 hours.
- Repeat step 2 with white wine, allowing mixture to cool to room temperature before pouring over two existing layers. After final three hours in refrigerator, use plastic wrap to transfer layers to cutting board. Cut into bite-sized pieces and serve.
