Research shows that the highest achieving students attend schools with well-staffed and well-funded libraries (Library and Book Trade Almanac, Vol. 58, 2013). Students make 1.3 billion visits to school libraries during the school year and in honor of this, we are featuring another book about the importance of libraries and access to good books.
In Karen Andrea’s The Enchanted Library, readers get to know Max Milford, a boy whose life is anything but routine. Max’s day to day existence is punctuated by endless moves, adjustments, transitions and separation. All this change comes to a halt when his grandfather finally shows up and rescues him. Grandpa’s house proves to be a stable new home, yet there is one area that is off limits and shrouded in secrecy. In this out-of-bounds room; Max discovers a long lost library of books that come to life! This unique library seems harmless at first, but soon has Max drawn in to its power and mystery. Readers will enjoy the adventure that ensues as Max works to save himself, his new home, and his beloved Grandpa.
Grade 3-6; Ages 8-12
