How better to mark Israel’s 68th anniversary of independence than with a little bit of magic and mind-bending? Great question!
The Israeli American Council, Combined Jewish Philanthropies and the Consulate General of Israel to New England will throw two kid-and-teen-friendly events this weekend as part of Celebrate Israel Boston.
On Saturday, May 14, older kids should head to the Berklee Performance Center (136 Massachusetts Ave.) to see Mashina, one of Israel’s top—and most influential—rock bands. (Taylor Swift, who?) Tickets start at a reasonable $35, but $180 VIP tickets get you backstage access to the band. The concert starts at 9 p.m.
On Sunday, May 15, littler kids can enjoy a performance by adored children’s entertainer Michal Haktana. She’ll perform in English and in Hebrew. (Just try not to waste your workday watching her ever-so-catchy YouTube videos.) Mentalist, mind-reader and emcee Eran Biderman will perform magic tricks and act as master of ceremonies, and there’s a showcase of local Jewish day school talent groups, too. Tickets are just $7.50, and the show starts at 3 p.m. at the Berklee Performance Center.
Last but not least: Parents searching for a night out should drop into Whisky Saigon (116 Boylston St.) on Thursday, May 12, to groove the night away alongside Israeli DJ Moshe Bonen, known for his work with Israel’s biggest radio station, Galgalatz. The Blue & White Night party starts at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $18 at the door.
