Have you been looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity? Are you compassionate and empathetic? Do you want to work with a wide diversity of people?
If so, volunteering as a mikveh guide just might be the role for you.
For the first time since 2019, Mayyim Hayyim Living Waters Community Mikveh is accepting applications for our next mikveh guide training.
The mikveh is a ritual bath, an ancient tradition for marking moments of transition. At Mayyim Hayyim, we reclaim this ritual to make it meaningful and relevant for the 21st century, as well as open, accessible and inclusive of all Jews and those becoming Jewish.
In a time of so much loss, overwhelm and fast-paced life just passing us by, mikveh can be grounding and mindful. Whether celebrating life’s joyous occasions like weddings, b’nai mitzvah or graduations, whether healing from loss, trauma, illness or difficult news, whether becoming Jewish or marking any of life’s plentiful moments, the mikveh is a space for ritual, reflection and spiritual connectedness.
Mikveh guides transform the ordinary into the holy by supporting Mayyim Hayyim’s guests through their immersion experiences. One of the most meaningful and moving volunteer experiences around, our mikveh guides hold space for guests, help them feel comfortable with the immersion experience and, when asked, witness these special moments. Mikveh guides are trained though a special program, Seven Steps, which will be hybrid (remote and in-person) and include both synchronous and asynchronous learning.
