More than 50 teens, parents, educators and community leaders attended a recent meeting of Lappin Foundation’s Teen Antisemitism Task Force, which featured the guest speaker Dr. Samantha Vinokor-Meinrath, author of “#antisemitism, Coming of Age During the Resurgence of Hate.” This topic was very relevant as we continue to experience a troubling rise in antisemitism on social media and in our communities.
Dr. Vinokor-Meinrath shared stories from her research in which she interviewed Jewish teens from around the country about their experiences with antisemitism, offering suggestions about ways to deal with situations. She also spoke about the importance of resilience. While it can seem daunting and overwhelming, we must speak up, speak out and gather strength from our community to combat antisemitism.
Debbie Coltin, executive director of Lappin Foundation, reminded the audience that no one has to combat antisemitism alone. There are organizations and resources to support us if we do experience antisemitism. The program was funded by Lappin Foundation with support from CJP and the Jewish Teen Initiative.
Teens of all faith are welcome to join the Teen Antisemitism Task Force. You can register at LappinFoundation.org. For more information email dcoltin@lappinfoundation.org.
