Calling all Jewish teens in Greater Boston! Jewish Studio Project, in partnership with Temple Shalom of Newton and powered by CJP, is excited to announce the launch of the first-ever Boston Teen Studio!
The Boston Teen Studio is designed to help Jewish teens process and express what it means to navigate the complexities of today’s world. Being a teenager in 2024 is no small feat—between the ongoing impacts of the COVID pandemic’s social isolation, the pressures of balancing school, friendships, and activities, and the constant stream of news about global issues like the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, climate change, and the rise of antisemitism, there’s a lot to carry.
This Teen Studio offers a safe, creative space for Jewish teens to come together, connect with peers, and explore their Jewish identity in a supportive community. Using the Jewish Studio Process—a unique blend of art therapy, Jewish learning, and spirituality—participants will develop resilience, express their thoughts and emotions, and gain valuable tools to navigate life’s challenges.
Each session will focus on the intersection of Jewish texts and art-making, using creativity as a gateway to deeper self-understanding. Through the Jewish Studio Process, participants engage in three stages: beit midrash (text study and discussion), art-making, and reflective writing. This mindful journey emphasizes personal growth over artistic perfection, moving from a blank canvas to a meaningful creation filled with shapes, lines, and color.
The creative process nurtured in this program cultivates essential skills: opening up to the unknown, processing complexity, developing patience with discomfort, nurturing curiosity, and fostering empathy. These skills are invaluable and extend far beyond the classroom.
