I am proudly sharing my new music video “Is There Still a Home?,” a collaboration with dancer and choreographer Liz Walker, supported by a CJP Arts and Culture Community Impact Grant. This video is part of a project titled “Anna’s Song,” dedicated to my grandmother, who was a member of the Jewish Hungarian resistance during World War II.
My grandmother risked her life numerous times to obtain fake documents that helped save lives. She was caught by the Germans in 1944 together with her first husband, Uri, a fellow member of the resistance. Miraculously, Anna survived the war. After the war, she looked for Uri until she finally learned that he had been murdered. While working as a counselor at a Jewish orphanage in Budapest, she met my grandfather.
Diving into Anna’s story with music and movement has been an impactful and inspiring journey for me. I only learned about her story when I was in my early 20s. I hope that my project will encourage others to engage deeply with their own family stories.
