For those who don’t know, Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters (JBBBS) is an innovative mentoring agency, driven by Jewish values, to serve and empower children and adults of all backgrounds, religions, identities, and abilities throughout Greater Boston. As a former mentee and current mentor (“Little” and “Big” in JBBBS terms), JBBBS was hugely important to me growing up, and now gives me an opportunity to give back in an extremely meaningful way.
Have you had a mentor in your life who has helped you make decisions, supported you through challenges and triumphs, or been there for you as a friend?
If you think mentoring is important, you should attend the JBBBS Gala on April 6. If you’re still on the fence, here are five reasons you should come to a great night at the House of Blues.
- Jump-start more matches. Every dollar raised at the Gala will support the creation of new matches and help fund the professional support that current matches receive.
- Boost friendships. In addition to matching children with mentors, JBBBS’s Friend 2 Friend Program introduces adults who have disabilities to new friends in their communities.
- Befriend new people. Turns out folks who like mentoring make fantastic friends and are always game to make a few more. No matter if you come solo or with your crew, you’ll end the night with more friends than at the start.
- Best entertainment. There will be a live band all night and fantastic food to go with an open bar. Come try our signature cocktail, The Mentoring Margarita!
- Silent auction, live auction, and raffle items. Whether you bid on some incredible auction items like DPS Skis, Fenway concert tickets to see The Who/Zac Brown Band, win pitching lessons from MLB pitcher Jake Fishman, or walk away with one of our many raffle prizes, like a $1,000 shopping spree to Nordstrom, you’ll have a chance to go home with a little extra something!
It is because of my connection with JBBBS that I have decided to serve on this year’s event committee for the 99th JBBBS Anniversary Gala, and I hope that you will join me in the celebration on April 6 at the House of Blues in Boston! This is JBBBS’ largest fundraiser of the year and a great night.
