Beyn Kodesh l’Chol is a community in formation for Jews (and Jewish-adjacent folks). Join us for in-person events, explore our blog and articles, find time for a one-on-one conversation, engage with the rituals Rabbi Becky Silverstein facilitates and find a way to connect to each other and the Jewish tradition. Together we will explore the ways we are connected to each other and the Jewish tradition in an explicitly LGBTQ embracing, anti-racist Jewish space that seeks to center the voices of those on the margins.
What’s in a name?
“Beyn Kodesh l’Chol” is the space between the sacred and the mundane. Found in the blessing spoken at the end of Havdalah, Beyn Kodesh l’Chol is part of the ritual that separates Shabbat from the rest of the week.
Beyn Kodesh l’Chol is also a description of the space where we live our lives. In our everyday lives, we are constantly weaving in and out of the sacred. While the Jewish tradition creates a strict separation between these two types of time, our lived experience is one that dives deeply into this blurriness, nuance and confusion.
Is Beyn Kodesh L’Chol for me?
Beyn Kodesh l’Chol is for all of us. Queer Jews. Interfaith families. Jews of choice. Folks exploring Judaism. Folks who understand that engaging in the blurriness is essential to building deep community. Folks who are willing to step into the vulnerability and challenge of critical conversations. Folks who are seeking ways to incorporate Judaism into their lives in ways that feel organic for them, without prescription. Folks who are looking for an explicitly LGBTQ embracing, anti-racist Jewish space that seeks to center the voices of those on the margins.
Beyn Kodesh l’Chol is a project that invites those interested in understanding and exploring the ways in which our lives are both holy and mundane. Join us for deep conversation, quick chats and one-on-one meetings with Rabbi Becky.
