Belmont World Film’s 21st International Film Series, “Complicated Identities,” observes Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, with the French film “Farewell Mr. Haffmann.”
The in-person screening will immediately be followed by a discussion led by Matthew Creighton, a lecturer at Boston University’s Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies; the discussion will be recorded and available for viewing online.
Legendary French actor Daniel Auteuil delivers one of his most superlative performances as talented jeweler Joseph Haffmann in director Fred Cavayé’s “Farewell Mr. Haffman.” Forced to flee Paris after the Nazi occupation of Paris, he arranges for his family to flee the city and offers his assistant (played by well-known actor Gilles Lelouche) the chance to take over his store until the conflict subsides. The agreement turns into a Faustian bargain, one that will forever change the fate of all involved.
The film will be available for streaming online from April 18-23.
