United Hatzalah sent a group of volunteers to Moldova to assist Ukrainian refugees, mostly women and children, coming across the boarder. They brought a group of Jewish refugees through Romania to Israel. Dr. Slater will give her first-hand account of the mission in a live Zoom call. (Here’s an excerpt from March 4, 2022.)
Using specially equipped motorcycle ambulances, United Hatzalah’s network of more than 6,000 volunteer medics help save thousands of lives each year across Israel by providing medical treatment in an average response time of 3 minutes or less.
Dr. Sharon Slater is a clinical psychologist living in Israel for 30 years and a volunteer medic for United Hatzalah. She is also a senior member of the UH Psychotrauma Unit, providing trauma care both in Israel and abroad. After the Mount Meron collapse, she treated medics and paramedics who had been present at the scene. As part of United Hatzalah overseas missions, and in the immediate aftermath of disaster, Dr. Slater flew to Texas during Hurricane Harvey, Surfside and, most recently, the Ukrainian border.
