We invite you to the long-awaited event in Boston: the screening of the Ukrainian cartoon “Mavka”! The film will be shown in English without subtitles.
This film is based on Lesya Ukrainka’s extravaganza drama “Forest Song” and images of folk mythology. The cartoon describes the relationship between forest spirits and people. The main character from among the forest inhabitants is the kind and naïve Mavka, who wakes up in the spring to wake up the rest of the spirits. The musician Lukash, to save his sick uncle Lev, goes to the mysterious and forbidden forest to find the tree of life at the suggestion of the cruel Kylina. In fact, Kylina wants to use the tree’s nourishing power to obtain eternal youth. Mavka admires Lukash’s musical talent and feelings arise between them.
Do not miss this unique opportunity to enjoy Ukrainian animation and a plot that recreates the beauty and magic of Ukrainian mythology.
The proceeds from the screening of the film will go to help Ukraine, Center Makor and the Ukrainian Cultural Center of New England.
