The Jewish holy day of Tisha B’Av marks a period of misfortune, calamity and persecution for Jews. At the top of that list is the destruction of the Second Temple, and other tragic events that coincide in the Jewish calendar. Tisha B’Av is also about construction of what is and yet to be. Judaism not only survived after the destruction of the Temple: it diversified and became stronger and more creative.
