This presentation is about hope and progress on climate resilience at a watershed level in Greater Boston. We welcome Julie Wormser, who will provide an update on the Resilient Mystic Collaborative. The RMC is a voluntary partnership among neighboring communities in Greater Boston’s Mystic River Watershed working to protect their people and places from climate-intensified risks.
Founded in September 2018 by 10 municipalities, the RMC came out of a sense of urgency and commitment among senior municipal staff to work across political boundaries to address challenges that were beyond their control. It has since grown to 20 municipalities and has raised over $5 million in funding to pursue regional climate resilience projects to keep people and places safe from flooding, storms and heatwaves.
Wormser is senior policy director for the Mystic River Watershed Association and founder of the Resilient Mystic Collaborative. Prior to joining MyRWA, she was the vice president for policy and planning at Boston Harbor Now. As executive director of The Boston Harbor Association, Wormser was instrumental in drawing attention to Boston’s need to prepare for coastal flooding from extreme storms and sea-level rise. She co-authored “Preparing for the Rising Tide” and “Designing With Water” and co-led the Boston Living with Water international design competition with the City of Boston and Boston Society of Architects. She has a BA in biology from Swarthmore College and an MPA from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
This presentation is a collaboration between Havurat Shalom and Communities Responding to Extreme Weather.
