Why is this year different from all other years? Where do we even start?!
It goes without saying that Passover is looking a bit different for everyone this year. Perhaps your plans to finally host your own seder have been dashed by social distancing and the fact that your dining room table is now your home office. Maybe you can’t travel home as planned. Maybe you weren’t planning to travel, but now your inbox is full of your family trying to coordinate a Zoom seder across time zones.
Regardless, one thing is certain: We’re all responsible for our own shulchan orech (Passover meal) this year.
With a little inspiration from one of the most heart-warming and escapist shows Netflix has to offer, we want to organize a “Great Passover Bake Off.” You’ll be working from your own kitchen, not a tent, and you’ll be both baker and judge (unless your roommate can do a great Mary Berry impression), but still.
We’ll gather, discuss our favorite (and least favorite) Passover dishes; talk a bit about the role of food in Jewish practice and how this has evolved over time; consider the ways in which these traditions can inform our own engagement with Judaism and our approach to social justice; and, finally, share our “signature dishes.”
We want to see (or at least learn the recipe for) your perfect matzah pizza, unique charoset, flourless chocolate cake and beyond!
Join us on Zoom.
