Building upon the success and popularity of “Boomer Shabbat” (coming on July 27), Falmouth Jewish Congregation is pleased to announce its first “Great American Songbook Shabbat,” a unique Sabbath worship experience. All are invited to the service and the reception following.
Come worship in song to timeless masterpieces you know and love, by George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, Jerome Kern and Cole Porter. We have thematically matched tunes from “The Great American Songbook” to and substituted them for the Shabbat liturgy, creating a service that elicits fresh appreciation of both. Ted Jellinek, a Falmouth-based accomplished jazz pianist, will lead a quartet with Liz Saunders on vocals, Doug Ricciardi on bass and Tony Scalisi on percussion. Ted Jellinek has been performing with, and leading, a variety of music groups for many decades, specializing in jazz renditions of American standards, especially Broadway. Liz is a vocal talent who has been exciting Cape audiences for many years in such venues as Grand Cru, Arts Aliv, and with the Cape Cod Symphony. Tony and Doug are stalwarts of the Cape jazz scene, creating a pulsating rhythm for most of the well-known Cape musicians. It promises to be a delightful and meaningful experience, so save the date and tell your friends.
This service will take place at the Falmouth Jewish Congregation’s East End Meeting House on Sandwich Road at the intersection of Hatchville Road. Parking (except for limited handicap spaces) is available across the street at the FJC Blanche and Joel D. Seifer Community Center at 7 Hatchville Road. Please park there and walk along the marked path to the Meeting House. A reception will take place after the service back in the Community Center.
