Filmmaker Margarita Linton visits the Tel Aviv exhibition of an esteemed Israeli painter’s most stirring and revealing self-portraits—the painter also happens to be her estranged father. Linton captures her father’s show on film to better understand and reconnect with him. The subject of her project naturally broadens as she records casual yet revealing conversations with an increasing number of family members. The more “The Artist’s Daughter, Oil on Canvas” progresses, the more we witness Linton’s search for understanding and healing from her father’s lifelong absence. Linton hopes to find solace in her work—the results are mystifying and surprising.
