What is the L’taken Social Justice Seminar?
The L’Taken Seminar is a weekend-long program in Washington, D.C., organized by the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (but is open to teens from all denominations). It is designed for high school students to learn about public policy issues through the lens of Jewish values. Over the course of the seminar, participants engage in discussions on a wide range of social justice topics, such as climate change, civil rights, and reproductive rights. They then select a specific issue, develop a personal stance, and deliver a lobbying speech to lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
In addition to policy discussions, students visit significant sites in Washington, such as the United States Holocaust Museum, making it an immersive educational experience that combines civic engagement with Jewish learning.
