Join Betsy Epstein and Ellie Svenson for a special reading and discussion of their new book “Still Becoming: Conversations With People in Their Sixties.”
Much has been written about aging as longevity increases in developed countries and human life extends into the 70s, 80s and beyond. Boomers find themselves inundated with advice about the financial, social and even sexual changes ahead and how to navigate these uncharted waters and cope with challenges that previous generations didn’t have the opportunity to wade into.
“Still Becoming” presents the stories, hopes, dreams and dilemmas of 32 sexagenarians, including singer/songwriter Livingston Taylor, cookbook author Joan Nathan, WCVB chief meteorologist Harvey Leonard and Celtics legend Jo Jo White and his wife, Debbie.
Co-authors and Miriam Fund co-chairs (past and present) Elinor Svenson, psychotherapist and adjunct assistant professor of psychiatry at Tufts University, and Betsy Banks Epstein, a Boston-based freelance writer whose work has been published in The Boston Globe, Cambridge Chronicle and several anthologies, uncover how their peers are reinventing, rebooting and tackling the issues related to advancing age.
Bumps in the road, paths that diverge, losses but also gains, sexagenarians reveal with candor their personal approach to “still becoming.”
Each attendee will receive a copy of the book! All guests are welcome.
This event is free of charge; there is a $36 suggested donation to The Miriam Fund. Kosher lunch provided.
