(BOSTON, February 16) In a Stand for Justice, Jewish and Argentinean organizations will host a public discussion at Boston University this Sunday to focus attention on Argentina’s failed investigations of the terrorist attack that destroyed the country’s Jewish Community Center (AMIA) in 1994, killing 85 people – and questions surrounding the death last month of Argentinean prosecutor Alberto Nisman, who was investigating the AMIA bombing. Suspicion has focused on Iran and Hezbollah as masterminds of the attack.
Nisman was found shot dead in his apartment one day before he was scheduled to address Argentina’s Congress on his investigative report, in which he accused the President and Foreign Minister of a cover-up deal with Iran. The cause of Nisman’s death has not been established.
Featured speaker Luis Moreno Ocampo is an Argentinean lawyer and was the first Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court at The Hague, where he investigated genocide and war crimes. Currently Senior Fellow at Yale University’s Jackson Center for Global Affairs, Moreno Ocampo also prosecuted human rights abuses by senior military officials who presided over Argentina’s Dirty War in the 1970’s.
Rabbi Claudia Kreiman – whose mother perished in the 1994 attack on the AMIA – will offer comments Sunday. She has been Associate Rabbi at Temple Beth Zion in Brookline since 2007.
Organized by the Argentinean Jewish Relief Committee of Greater Boston, in cooperation with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the AJC for Global Jewish Advocacy and the Combined Jewish Philanthropies, the Stand for Justice is co-hosted by Boston University’s Elie Wiesel Center for Judaic Studies.
