Starting Sunday, April 2, we begin the tractate of Sotah (“The Suspected Adulteress”), which is the fifth tractate in Seder Nashim (“Order of Women,” that generally addresses family law).

Sotah discusses the legal ramifications of a husband suspecting his wife of adultery and the ensuing process that is followed to determine if she is guilty. Since the wife is required to make a declaration regarding her innocence, the tractate also addresses other Jewish practices that involve recitations. As is usual in our Talmud study, the text often includes related and not-so-related narratives and legal diversions that augment and deepen the learning experience.
