Rabbi Naomi Levy, bestselling author, founder of Nashuva and a unique and passionate rabbi in the contemporary Jewish community, will be the keynote speaker at the Metrowest Shavuot celebration.
The Metrowest Shavuot celebration is a pluralistic, joyful celebration of the Jewish people’s receiving Torah and the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. This year marks the community’s sixth regional celebration and the first-ever virtual gathering of 14 congregations and Jewish organizations as a result of COVID-19’s tragic impact.
The celebration kicks off at 5 p.m. with a children’s program led by Josh Conescu and with captivating Jewish stories that children “Zooming” in at home will illustrate as they listen along. Conescu has been teaching “Jewish” in the Boston area for over 20 years. Cantor Ken Richmond of Temple Israel in Natick will co-lead the family program with song and celebration. The family program concludes at 6 p.m. with a hands-on cooking demonstration on how to make a no-bake cheesecake.
Following the children’s program, the celebration offers more than 30 workshops led by area clergy and lay teachers, community connections and a late-night cheesecake party for all. Cheesecake and dairy foods are popular at Shavuot as Israel is often referred to as the “land of milk and honey.”
Rabbi Naomi Levy joins the celebration at 7 p.m. to share her soulful and relevant teaching with Metrowest’s Jewish community. Rabbi Levy is the founder and spiritual leader of Nashuva, a groundbreaking Jewish community based in Los Angeles. Rabbi Levy is also a bestselling author and nationally noted speaker on revitalizing faith, spirituality, healing and prayer. In recognition of the impact she has made, the Forward identified Rabbi Levy as one of the nation’s 50 most influential Jewish leaders and Newsweek included Rabbi Levy in its list of “Top 50 Rabbis in America.”
The evening is underwritten by a grant from Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
