Two novelists confront the legacies of their families. Soon after Rachel Kadish and Jessica Shattuck met in a Boston writer’s group, they discovered they had something in common—or perhaps it’s better to say they discovered something that was as far as possible from “in  common.” Kadish’s grandparents were Polish Holocaust survivors; Shattuck’s were members of the Nazi party in Germany during World War II.
