“Of the Heart” is a unique documentary by Alex Salsberg capturing real and raw moments of intergenerational friendship through recorded conversations between four pairs of friends, illustrated by charming and inventive animation. These friends talk about everything: walks, smells, hope, regret, loss, dementia and the medical system, with plenty to laugh about too.
“Of the Heart” was created in partnership with Hebrew SeniorLife as part of the JArts and CJP Community Creative Fellowship. The film will screen as part of a documentary block at IFF Boston.
Alex Salsberg is an animator and interviewer who is always looking for exciting new ways to combine the two. As an indie animation director, Alex loves telling stories through funny, weird and heartfelt cartoons, and has worked on projects for Billy Ray Cyrus, Utkarsh Ambudkar, MTV, Nickelodeon and WGBH. As an interviewer, he is the host of “I Loved This Conversation,” a podcast about people living creative lives, and “Artist + Jew,” a series of animated interviews with Jewish artists.
