Join Women’s Philanthropy Mitzvah Mondays for a virtual drive to support Hope & Comfort, a partner organization of CJP. In honor of Women’s Health Month, we’re collecting essential hygiene products for women, youth and families in need across the Greater Boston area.
Last year, Hope & Comfort distributed over 1.5 million hygiene products. However, this is just scratching the surface. An estimated 250,000 youth under the age of 18 in Massachusetts are experiencing hygiene insecurity, and one in five youth miss school each month because they lack access to menstrual products. Unfortunately, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits do not cover hygiene products. These items are expensive and buying them shifts money away from other urgent needs. We also know that during the coronavirus pandemic, soap and other hygiene products are even more important for health and wellness.
Can you help us collect essential hygiene products? To participate, visit the Amazon Wishlist to ship products directly to the Hope & Comfort warehouse. It’s as easy as visiting their Amazon Wishlist, selecting the product(s) you’d like to purchase and checking out. The hygiene products will go directly to youth and families, ensuring they can stay healthy and feel confident.

What products do Hope & Comfort accept?
They accept any unused, unexpired hygiene items. The most popular items include soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, pads and tampons, floss and conditioner—but they’ll gladly accept any hygiene products.
What products do they need most today?
Their most-needed items are currently toothpaste, unisex deodorant and sulfate-free shampoo.
Can I see a wishlist of products?
Yes, you can view and purchase the items on the Amazon Wishlist, which are then sent directly to Hope & Comfort’s warehouse (see above).
Can I drop off items I have at home or are newly purchased?
Yes, you can donate any unused, unexpired or newly purchased hygiene item. To drop off at Hope & Comfort’s warehouse in Needham, please email Abby MacDonald (see above).
Can I drop off products but not drive to Needham?
If you’re looking for a drop-off closer to your neighborhood, please contact Jillian, and we’ll do our best to match you with a volunteer in your area (see above).
Are travel or sample size products OK?
The majority of the products they distribute are full-size. However, they are glad to accept smaller-sized items, which are perfect for shelters and short-term programs.
What if some of the products in my collection look questionable?
If a product is clearly used, expired or has significant spillage, please remove and recycle it accordingly. For all other products, even ones you are unsure about, they’ll gladly take a look! They have volunteers at their warehouse who inspect every product before it goes out, and Hope & Comfort takes ultimate responsibility for ensuring that any items they distribute are safe and dignified.
What is Hope & Comfort’s mission?
Their mission is to provide essential hygiene products to support and improve the health, self-esteem and hygiene education of school-aged children and young adults in need within Greater Boston. In 2020, they distributed over 1.5 million hygiene products. This year, Hope & Comfort plans to distribute 2 million products, including 1 million bars of soap.
