Temple Chayai Shalom welcomes the public to an inspiring Shabbat service honoring Martin Luther King’s legacy. This service will include reflections from temple congregants on their recent trip to Alabama and Georgia. Participants on the trip joined congregants from other area temple communities to explore the roots of the civil rights movements, as well as the experience of Jews during that time period.
In addition, the temple choir, Kol Shalom, will sing inspiring African-American spirituals that were sung in the civil rights movement, along with other songs of peace, freedom and hope.
The service will be followed by refreshments and an opportunity for participants to socialize and meet Rabbi Ken Carr, cantorial soloist David Rothberg and other participants.
The event is free and open to the public.
