Interested in hearing about a meaningful volunteer opportunity helping local Holocaust survivors? On February 1st Jewish Family & Children’s Service will be running a training and informational session for their Holocaust Survivor Holiday Visitor Program, just for Boston 3G. Anyone interested in learning more about this program and how to become a volunteer is encouraged to attend!
About the program and training:
We all want to ensure that survivors of the Holocaust understand that they are loved and remembered. In light of this, Schechter Holocaust Services, a division of JF&CS, matches survivors with 2nd and 3rd generations for holiday visits on Rosh Hashana, Chanukkah, Purim, Peseach, and Shavuot. Visits are usually an hour in length and can involve going for a walk, doing a crossword puzzle, sharing stories of children, and looking at pictures. Many of these matches have continued for years and have evolved into monthly visits. We are very proud of this program and hope you will want to be part of it!
We currently have a waiting list and would love to match as many survivors as possible by Purim. The program requires a training session but to accommodate schedules, we are doing a group training on Sunday, 2/1 from 1:00-2:30 at Kehillath Israel Synagogue in Brookline. Snacks will be provided and we hope you can attend. Even if you don’t think you are free now, but want to volunteer in the future, we would love to see you.
