The Jewish Studio Project Teen Studio is here to help process and express what it means to be a Jewish teen today. Being a teenager in 2024 can be hard. From the lingering effects of the COVID pandemic’s social isolation, to balancing schoolwork/friends/activities, to social media, to 24/7 headlines about the wars in Ukraine, Gaza, climate change, and the national and international rise of antisemitism, Jewish teens have a lot on their plates.

The Teen Studio provides a safe environment for Jewish teens to gather and engage with other Jewish teens, build community, examine what “being Jewish” means to them, and develop resilience-based skills. The Jewish Studio Process will be used as the methodology for this program, bringing together proven art therapy techniques with Jewish learning and spirituality.

Each session will focus on the interplay of Jewish text with art-making, all as a gateway to a reimagined understanding of self. Creative process is a practice for developing creative habits of mind, including: learning to open up to the unknown, processing complexity, developing patience with discomfort and ambiguity, nurturing curiosity, and developing the capacity for empathy. Developing these skills transcends the classroom experience.

The Teen Studio is a partnership between JSP Boston and Temple Shalom of Newton and is powered by CJP.
