Lawrence Kweller is a socially inept 17-year-old cinephile who dreams of attending film school at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. In order to earn money for tuition, he lands his dream job at his local video store. With graduation looming and pressure mounting, that dream starts to go sour. Lawrence’s single-minded movie focus turns into anxiety, alienating his single mother and his closest friend, and clouding an already complicated friendship with Alana, his manager at the video store. The experience forces Lawrence to take a good hard look at the person he is. And he doesn’t like what he sees.
