Join us for a Holocaust memorial concert in commemoration of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkinau and the Yad Vashem exhibit “Shoah: How Was It Humanly Possible?

The concert is Dana Sandler’s “I Never Saw Another Butterfly,” a beautiful chamber jazz composition and moving tribute to the youngest victims of the Holocaust. It was inspired by the book of the same name, originally published in 1959, which is a collection of poetry and art by children in the Terezin concentration camp. Sandler’s music is “captivating, and her voice is a sensitive musical instrument.” After the concert, light refreshments will be served and attendees will have the opportunity to share reflections.

The self-guided visual exhibition is entitled “Shoah: How Was It Humanly Possible?” This is the first traveling exhibition created by Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Center, that recounts major historical aspects of the Shoah. It first opened at the United Nations in 2015 and is designed to promote discussions about the Holocaust, to impart its universal lessons and to foster a connection to its relevance to daily life in the 21st century. It takes approximately 45 minutes to view and will be available between April 11 and May 11; advanced registration through the synagogue office is required (email for available viewing times).

Schedule:

5 p.m. – Visual exhibit open for public viewing
6:15 p.m. – Kosher Shabbat dinner
7 p.m. – Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat service
