Young Israel of Brookline (YIB) is offering a Hebrew Reading Crash Course Level II to all members of the Brookline/Brighton Jewish community. This series, sponsored by NJOP*, is geared toward those who want to improve their Hebrew reading and comprehension skills and learn more about the prayers said daily, as well as on Shabbat, High Holidays, and Passover. YIB is offering the course in an effort to inspire Brookline/Brighton’s Jews to become more involved in Jewish life.
For many Jews, the inability to read Hebrew and understand the synagogue services is a barrier to active participation in Jewish life. By teaching them to read Hebrew and making them feel comfortable in synagogues, NJOP hopes to open the door to Jewish growth and commitment for thousands of Jews.
The Hebrew Reading Crash Course Level II is designed to strengthen the participants’ skills in reading the different prayers and enhance understanding of the ideas and concepts behind those prayers. This course will make one’s experience at YIB (or any synagogue) more stimulating and meaningful and will help one feel more comfortable at services. Additionally, this series broadens the Hebrew vocabulary of participants through the study of prayer terminology and increases familiarity with the rituals and tunes used in those prayers.
