Hebrew College President Rabbi Sharon Cohen Anisfeld will address the entire Jewish community at the Zayin Adar Commemoration Dinner. This is a special day for the community Hevra Kadisha of Greater Boston, as it is the anniversary of Moshe Rabbenu’s birth and death.
According to tradition, Zayin Adar is both the birth date and the yahrzeit of Moshe Rabbenu. It is said that God prepared Moshe for burial and laid him in an unmarked grave. Therefore, this day has become the day on which hevra kadisha around the world honor those who carry out the sacred work of preparing our dead (chesed shel emet).
Some haverim fast on Zayin Adar to atone for any inadvertent disrespect shown during the ritual purification process of Tahara. Learning and a celebratory meal is then held in the evening to honor haverim.
For more information or to register, visit HevraKadisha.org or email allenmspi@gmail.com. No cost for haverim volunteers.
