FreshFlix Short Film Competition

Top Pick November 7, 2024 Cambridge $18.00
TED_CAKE

Our 14th annual celebration of next-generation Jewish filmmakers from across the globe features seven short films from the United States, Israel, and France.

This year’s FreshFlix films include:

HOW TO MAKE CHALLAH: Jane filmed her 97-year-old immigrant grandmother baking challah. In 2022, Jane’s niece films her baking challah for the first time.

KISS MY ASS: Anna gets her first abortion, accompanied by the ghost of her quirky Ukrainian great-grandmother.

BAD JEW GOOD GIRL: Laurel, a non-practicing Jew, is alone in her apartment on Yom Kippur.

I MISSED YOU AT SYNAGOGUE: When Carmel, a religious boy, finds his best friend Ido at his house with his heart broken from a recent breakup, Carmel feels things he doesn’t dare to admit.

VIA DOLOROSA: Between drug addiction, first discoveries of sexuality, and a permanent state of war, the filmmaker searches for her lost youth by wandering the streets of Jerusalem during Yom Kippur.

THE EIGHTH DAY: Noah and Jonah are gay Jewish husbands and new parents to a baby boy. When their parents arrive at their home expecting a traditional bris for their grandson, they are forced to reveal they have something very different in mind for their son: no circumcision.

THE STORY OF JACOB: A 27-year-old man prepares for his adult bar mitzvah with the help of his unhinged rabbi.

Followed by a conversation with FreshFlix filmmakers!

Before the FreshFlix screenings, come to Lehrhaus from 5-6:30 p.m. before the FreshFlix program for the screening of “How to Make Challah” with filmmaker Sarah Rosen.
