Israeli Ethiopian rockstar Gili Yalo returns to North America this spring with his five-piece band. Yalo thrills with his exciting brew of Ethiopian roots music fused with soul, funk, psychedelic and jazz, singing in Amharic, English and Hebrew. Invariably, he finds himself surrounded by dancing, singing, adoring audiences, brought to their feet by the sheer joy of his talent and personality.
Seating is limited. To ensure your spot, advance registration is strongly recommended.
“His performance was energetic and had the audience on their feet from the first song. He is not only a gifted singer but a natural performer and storyteller.”
—Thérèse LaGamma, public programs director at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, where Gili played in the fall
The concert will kick off a conference on Ethiopian Israelis and the Creation of Knowledge: Encounters of Homeland and Diaspora at Brandeis University, which continues on April 24 with open academic workshops.
