“Nothing is more important in 2024 to averting climate disaster than U.S. presidential and congressional elections in November. I state this as the parent of a 20-year-old with three grandparents who escaped Germany as teenagers just ahead of the Nazi slaughter without their parents. I increasingly see strong parallels with that time. We must protect our future by turning out climate-aware voters.”
—David L., JCAN member
With one national duty—taxes—behind you, on to the other patriotic duty—tikkun olam—making the future world better by ensuring good stewardship by encouraging registered environmental voters to vote. Registered voters who have not voted in any recent elections—that’s whom you will call—in Pennsylvania, where votes count. In partnership with fellow non-partisan, nonprofit Environmental Voter Project, JCAN-MA has reserved an evening when EVP’s Shannon Seigal will train us and guide us.
At least 30 of us will make hundreds of calls to fellow commonwealth Pennsylvania to get out the primary vote on or before April 23 (while we are at our seders). Why bother so early? People who vote are more likely to vote again. It becomes familiar and meaningful. They are not as easily dissuaded.
